Out of State Trails - Texas Trails
Wednesday, 10 June 2009 12:14

Nearest Accommodations: Houston

Location: From I-10 go south on Hwy 6 for about a mile or so. Watch to the right for the George Bush Park. Find you a place to park. Ride across the bridge going south and take the first paved trail to your right. Follow the paved trail around and under Hwy 6. You should now be going east on the south side of the creek. Follow this paved trail until you get to Eldridge Pkwy. It is at Eldridge Pkwy. you will want to get on the single track and follow it.

Type: Single track and paved trail /out and back

Distance: Not sure but we logged 15 miles.

Summary: If you are wanting a trail that's not very busy and has some technical stuff on it then this trail should fit the bill. I was not to sure what this trail would be like as it did not seem to get as high as a rating as Memorial Park did but we tried it out anyway. We were lucky enough to be staying just a few miles from where the trail head is so we rode from the there to the trail head, I love it when you don't have to load a vehicle up to ridding. At first I was not overly impressed as we started out on a paved trail, but after a few miles we hooped onto some single track and it was fun from there on out. The terrain for this trail is quit different from that of Memorial Park. This trail follows a creek and does little loops going up and down the creek bed. There are no long climbs but there are quit a short steep climbs. There are plenty of technical sections out there so be sure to polish up those tech skills before going, lots of narrow stuff, deep drop offs and roots. The soil is that same as pretty much the Dallas area which when wet really can get muddy and leave ruts so don't attempt it if the trail is wet. We pretty much did all the stuff on the south side of the creek where it mostly seems to be. You will know you are at the end when you come to a BMX area where they have built jumps and such. As with Memorial Park if it is in the summer or spring you might want to spray down with cutter or something. Unlike Memorial Park this trail was not all that busy except for the paved trails. Final thought is if you are near this area or don't like sharing the trail with a lot of people and your technical skills are up to par then The Anthills might be what you are looking for. It's fun, not really fast, and a little demanding. If you do go out there be sure to get a map as it can be a little confusing to ride out there and there really is no trail markings.

Recommended Route: Start at the trail head at Hwy 6 and ride all the way to the jumps and then turn around and come back.

When to ride: Anytime of the year is great except after a rainfall. Don't even think about ridding here if there has just been a rain in the area.

Rating: I would rate this trail for the more experienced rider. Someone new to the sport will probably not have a good time out there unless they stick to the paved trails.
