The Trail
Nearest Town with Accommodations: Mountain Home
Location: From Mountain Home take Hwy. 201 north for about 5 miles. Once you come to Norfork Lake and cross the bridge take the first right this will be road 175. Find yourself a place to park and the trail is located on the north side of 175.
Type: Single track / loops.
Distance: About 8.5 miles doing all loops.
Summary: This trail can be flooded by the lake after heavy rains so check with some locals before heading up that way. The trail is fast and fun, it is all pretty much single track. As far as climbing goes there really is not much in the way of extended climbing on this trail there are a few steep little climbs that a person can get over with a few hard turns on the cranks. The downhill's are about the same, they are fast but not extended. It does seem like you go downhill a lot more then up but that might just be me. The trail is well packed but has places especially at the beginning where you will encounter some loose rock and such. As you get closer to the lake the trail really begins to smooth out this area is great for the big chainring. It is not to tight or twisty so a person could probably come out here and really do some hammering. There are a couple of creek crossings and few areas where the trail can trip you up but as far as technical I wouldn't say it was all that technical of a trail. Toward the end of the trail there a couple of whoopee doo's to look forward to. The area has some really scenic places so be sure to bring a camera.
Recommended Route: Starting from 175 go toward Hwy. 201 and take the trail in a clockwise direction.
When to ride: Anytime is a good time on these trails they are always well maintained.
Rating: I think this trail would be good for almost anyone as it is not to technical nor are there any big climbs involved. As I stated above there are a few places to watch out for but a novice rider can always get get off and walk these and there are not that many of those areas out there. It also stays pretty close to the road so bail outs are available.
